Great Glen Way
Perfectly nestled on the Great Glen Way, the Inch Hotel provides the perfect resting place for weary walkers. With comfortable bedrooms in which to lay a sleepy head, a cosy living room in which to rest by the fire and a first class restaurant in which to re-energise, walkers are well catered for at the Inch Hotel.
Opened in 2002, the Great Glen Way is a 73-mile route connecting Fort William to Inverness through the Great Glen. It is a challenging long distance walk through some of the most dramatic scenery in Scotland, offering spectacular views and historical and natural heritage along the way.
Starting from the side of Loch Linnhe, a sea loch that opens out onto the Atlantic Ocean, the Great Glen Way follows the line of the Caledonian Canal for almost the whole length of the route. The Great Glen Way departs to the west of Loch Ness shortly after Drumnadrochit and takes a moor and farmland route before finally crossing the Caledonian Canal and the River Ness as the walk enters the City of Inverness.
(Although Fort William is often referred to as the starting point, the route can be equally well walked and enjoyed starting from Inverness and heading south.)
For the most part, the Great Glen Way is a low-level route following mainly towpaths and woodland tracks. However, there are some challenging sections and the more experienced may wish to tackle a few Munros or Corbetts within reach from the route.
Depending on walkers experience, the Great Glen Way can be broken up into smaller sections, or alternatively can be walked in its entirety over the course of 5-6 days, staying overnight in the various communities within the Glen.
